Kenneth Russell Day Sr., age 65, of Beckley, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Raleigh General Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born January 24, 1947 in Kimball, W.Va., to the late Edgar P. Day Sr. and Virginia Sexton Day.
Kenneth worked his whole life as a coal miner for many local coal companies. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Local 95 in Beckley and was awarded the title Worshipful Master; he was also a Shriner, the American Legion Post 32 of Beckley, and also a member of the Moose Lodge in Beckley. He was also a member 40 & 8 Local 1171 in Welch. He enjoyed going to the Commission on Aging to exercise. He also had a great passion for West Virginia Mountaineer Football and enjoyed watching it with “the boys”. He was a jack of all trades and could do anything. He also served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years Mrs. Linda (Steele) Day, at home; son, Kenneth Russell Day, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Shady Spring; daughter, Cyndi Day of Beckley; brothers, Frank Day and wife Debbie, Fred Day, and Edgar P. Day Jr., all from Columbus, OH; sister, Charlotte Meador and husband Glenn of Patterson, NJ; sister-in-law, Susan Day of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Rachel Lynn and Sydney Day; his special sidekick and brother-in-law, Jimmy Felts and wife Betty of Cincinnati, OH; brothers-in-law, Eugene Smith of Welch and Ronnie Steele of Roanoke, VA; Masonic brother-in-law, Clarence Steele and wife Dreama of Beckley; and sister-in-law, Mary Steele of North Carolina.
A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Robert Day and Rev. Kenneth Felts officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield where the American Legion Post 32 and Masonic Lodge Local 95 will conduct graveside rites.
Pallbearers will be family and friends and also the Masonic Lodge Local 95.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Beckley.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Road Beckley, WV 25801, or a charity of your choice in memory of Kenneth.
There will be a luncheon to gather and fellowship immediately following the graveside services at the Daniels Bible Church in Daniels.
