Anna Lou Furrow

Mrs. Anna Lou Furrow, age 88, of Shady Spring, WV passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Anna was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia on January 14, 1935, to the late Stanley & Virginia Salyards.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emell Furrow, her infant son Danny Ray Furrow, her siblings Betty Hurget, Teddy Salyards, Doris Bennett, and Brenda Weikle.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory are five beautiful daughters: Vickey Cox and husband Barry Cox, Cathy Hunt, and husband David Hunt, Donna Whitt and husband Mark Whitt, Lou Ann Lilly and husband Dewey Lilly, and youngest daughter Connie Glaize. Grandchildren;  Melanie Gray and husband Jack Gray, Jason Cox and wife Mary Cox, Brandon Lilly and wife Amber Lilly, Heid Wood and husband Brandon Wood, Jamie Lilly and wife Lauren Lilly, and youngest grandson Austin Glaize. Great Grandchildren; Jennifer Shrewsbury and husband Derek Shrewsbury, Kaitlynn and Hailey Cox, Lauren Persinger, Taylor & Leah Wood, and youngest great grandchildren Hayes & Shay Lilly.  Great great grandson Bentley Shrewsbury. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Anna married Emell Furrow on August 26, 1951. She worked on the Furrow farm with her husband for over 60 years where they raised five girls. She loved working in her garden on the farm and taking care of the lawn and flower beds. Speaking of gardens, Anna was an amazing cook! As her son in law Dewey once said – "She could make dirt taste good!" She will be remembered as a very active and independent lady; she was still mowing her grass at the young age of 80 years old.  She loved watching old Western movies in her free time and sitting on the front porch with friends and family in the warmer months. Anna contributed a great deal of her time to volunteer work, including making cards and crafts for hundreds of nursing home residents for many years. She also played a large role in the volunteer program Sewing for Souls. She attended Blue Jay Fellowship Church and was very appreciative of her church family there. Her family and all her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Shady Spring on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Friends may visit with the family from 1-2PM prior to the funeral service, which will begin at 2PM. Pastor Todd Younce will be officiating.  A graveside burial will follow at the Furrow family cemetery on East Whitby Road. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband Emell and other family members.

Those that loved her most will get to say one last goodbye. Anna would have turned 89 years old on this cold January 14. However, we should all smile and celebrate her time on earth with us, as her first heavenly birthday will be nothing short of paradise, a place we cannot imagine, much brighter than her previous 88 celebrations.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cox, Brandon Lilly, Jamie Lilly, Austin Glaize, Dewey Lilly, and Brandon Wood.

Private online condolences and other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family via our guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net.

Arrangements are by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 729 Flat Top Rd, Shady Spring, WV 25918.
