Anna
Gray
Oct 5, 1932 — Sep 3, 2026
Anna Luzader Gray, born October 5, 1932, in Glenville, West Virginia, lived a long and eventful life marked by family, service, and a genuine commitment to her community.
At the age of 17, Anna married Don Gray in Charleston, West Virginia. Don’s career with the J.C. Penney Company took the couple from Charleston to Massachusetts, Beckley, Morgantown, and eventually Rhode Island. Together, they built a life filled with family, travel, and many lasting friendships. Following retirement, Anna and Don returned to Beckley in 1988 to be near their daughter and family.
Anna became a familiar and active volunteer in the Beckley community. At Raleigh General Hospital, she contributed more than 8,300 hours of volunteer service. She was also a dedicated blood donor, giving more than 11 gallons of blood through the American Red Cross during her lifetime.
For many years, Anna served as secretary for several community organizations, including Friends of the Library, the Raleigh County Historical Society, the Beckley Art Group, and Wildwood Cemetery. She quietly supported other projects and causes as well, some of which her family learned about only after her passing.
Anna was a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Those who knew her will remember a gracious and generous woman who was always stylish and looking her best—and who was easily recognized around Beckley behind the wheel of her red Thunderbird.
While Anna gave generously of her time to her community, her greatest devotion was always to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family will remember her life, her example, and the many ways she cared for them throughout the years.
A memorial service celebrating Anna’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Beckley on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m., officiated by the Reverend Doc Adkins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Anna Gray Family Fund at Beckley Area Foundation or to Bowers Hospice House, in honor of the compassionate care provided to Anna during her peaceful final days.
