Baxter Olen Shrewsbury

Baxter Olen Shrewsbury, age 81, of  Stanaford, WV passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2025.

Baxter was born on April 4, 1944 at Matoaka, WV, to the late Olen Vercoe Shrewsbury and Bradie Marie Tilley Shrewsbury.

He was the second of three children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Bailey Shrewsbury, and his older sister Barbara Faye Bolen.

Baxter and Barbara had three daughters, Susan McCracken and husband David, Sandy Maxwell and husband Scott, and Samantha Via and husband Jon. They had two grandchildren, Zach and Makayla McCracken. He also leaves behind his younger sister, Janie Smith, and a close nephew, Rick Shrewsbury.

Baxter was a founding member and trustee of Grace Baptist Church at Stanaford. He worked for many years as a tireman on strip mine equipment. He was a talented artist, painter, woodworker, and stained glass maker. He played banjo and harmonica and sang bass in the church choir and quartet. Baxter was a mechanic and builder, and could fix anything. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help anybody at anytime. He was a true man of integrity.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos  E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Roger Harding and Pastor Daniel Harding officiating. Burial will follow  at the Stanaford Cemetery at Stanaford, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
