Betty Lucille Cox, age 90, of Blue Jay, WV went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 26, 2026 at the Raleigh Center in Daniels, WV.
Born on March 28, 1935 in Mabscott, she was the first born child of seven children of the late Roy Okey Chapman and Dorothy Lucille Taylor Chapman.
She was a devoted wife for 68 years, a loving mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and her family meant everything to her.
Mrs. Cox loved the Lord and serving him, before becoming a shut -in several years ago. She had a special place in her heart for children, and served as a Sunday School Teacher, and helped bring children to church on buses for many years, while being a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
She was a retired employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education, where she served as head cook at Beaver Elementary School. She is still remembered for her cooking, and is known for her delicious homemade rolls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Ray Cox; daughter Lisa Lilly; son Mark Cox; brothers Robert Chapman, Roy Edward Chapman, David Chapman, Charles Chapman, and a sister Jeanette Copenhaver.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include two sons, Pastor Darrell Cox and wife Marilyn of Mocksville, NC, and Randy Cox and wife Kellie of Daniels; a brother Frederick Chapman of Blue Jay. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home at Shady Spring, WV on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 12:00 PM with her son, Pastor Darrell Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
