It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Dean Lane, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world peacefully on August 22, 2026. 

Born on September 15, 1941, in Cool Ridge, West Virginia, Bobby was the cherished son of the late Frank and Nola Lane.

Bobby spent his formative years in Cool Ridge, where he developed a strong sense of family and community, values that he carried with him throughout his life. 

He was predeceased by his dear parents, Frank and Nola Lane, and his beloved sisters, Margaret Sue Cadle and Alice Jo Lane. 

Bobby is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Ruth Flurnoy Lane, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage having exchanged vows on June 26, 1964, in Beckley, WV. He is also survived by two brothers, Jimmie Darrel Lane (Wilma) and Posey Frank Lane (Marie). Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Together, Bobby and Carol raised two children, Kimberly and Michael, who were the lights of his life. His legacy continues through his two children Kimberly Lane Thomas (John) and Michael Dean Lane (Shell), his eight grandchildren—Priscilla Louise Price (Andrew), Michael Troy Lane (Sharyn), Carol Lane Lilly, James Robert Griffin, Steven Dean Lane, James Bradley Riley, Bridgette Ann-Riley Brown (Justin), Casey May Riley—as well as his 10 great-grandchildren: Julian Lane Price, Sullivan Eli Lilly, Malakai Emmanual Holmes, Hudson Dean Lilly, Brenna Grace Holmes, Roselyn Jane Lane, Gunner Morgan Brown, Gavin Kianoa Riley-King, Braxton Cash Brown, Grayson Ky-Mani Riley-King, and soon to be Lilly Hosanna Lane. Bobby's love for his family was boundless, and he took great joy in spending time with them, nurturing their dreams and celebrating their achievements.

Bobby dedicated many years to his career, working at Newport News Shipyard and later for Waste Management until he retired. He was known for his strong work ethic and for treating colleagues with the same warmth and kindness that he extended to everyone he met. His professional life was marked by integrity and a commitment to excellence.

A man of deep faith, Bobby was a member of The Lighthouse Church (Newport News, VA), formerly known as Parkview Baptist Church. His spiritual journey was a cornerstone of his life, and he found great solace and strength in his beliefs. Bobby was a beacon of light to those around him, always ready with a kind word or an open heart.

Outside of work and church, Bobby had a variety of hobbies and interests that enriched his life. Yet, it was his family and faith that he held most dear. He possessed an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness touched countless lives. Bobby's ability to connect with others and his unwavering love for his family were among his most treasured qualities.

Funeral services will be held at the Amos E. Quesenberry Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 3 PM with Pastor Larry Cochran and Pastor Fred Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Primitive Baptist Church (Mt. View Cemetery) Cool Ridge, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home on Saturday to honor the memory of a man who gave so much to those he loved.

For his friends and loved ones in the Hampton area, there will be a memorial service at a later date a The Lighthouse Church, 604 Hilton Blvd., Newport News, VA.

As we say goodbye to Bobby, we remember a life well-lived and a man who was deeply loved. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.
