Bonnie Sue Hart Rakes, age 71, of Daniels, WV, formerly of Mount Hope, WV passed away at the Raleigh Center in Daniels, WV on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
Born on May 23, 1954 in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Junior Lewis"Nip" Duncan and Lottie Pearl Sears Duncan.
Mrs. Rakes was a retired CNA, having last worked at Pinecrest Hospital. She was of the Christian faith, and loved quilting in her spare time when health allowed. Mrs. Rakes loved animals, and enjoyed taking care of her dogs and goats on her farm.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Duncan; her partner Steven Bennett, and her special friend Corrine Bennett.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children, "C.J" Joyce Aliff of Pensacola, FL, Judi Aliff of Pensacola, FL, Nic Bragg of Pensacola, FL, Lea West and her husband Randy Blankenship of Pineville, and Missy Duncan of Beckley; seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers Randy Duncan of Coal City, Roger Duncan of Hilltop, Ronnie Duncan and wife Rita of Coal City, Raymond Duncan and wife Sam Farley of Midway, and Nelson Duncan and partner Debbie Bumgardner of Meadow Bridge.
She also leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Patricia Stover of Virginia, and best friend Barbara Clay of Rock Creek. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held to Celebrate the Life of Bonnie Sue Rakes on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV at 4:00 PM with Davie Duncan officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 PM until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
