Buford Clifford Dunbar Sr., age 81, of Clear Creek, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV following a long illness.
Mr. Dunbar attended Clear Fork High School, Ameagle, WV where he was an avid basketball player. After high school, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for Universal Steel Company. He then moved back to West Virginia where he worked as a coal miner for Itmann mines, Beckley Mines, and retired from Consolidated Coal Company, Rowland Mines in Clear Creek.
Mr. Dunbar was a member of the UMWA Local #1330. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He coached all his boys in baseball, Peewee and Midget League Football, and basketball for Clear Creek and Clear Fork teams. When the boys got older he became a referee. He loved dirt track racing, where he raced his own car as well as watched his son, Charlie, race. Mr. Dunbar was a retired volunteer fireman from the Clear Creek Fire Department.
Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ora Stover Dunbar; two sons, Harold Lewis and Bufford Clifford "Cliff" Jr.; brothers Donald , Charles, Dwight, Robert and Henry Dunbar; sister Shirley Bryant; a great granddaughter Ora Bell.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Faye Dunbar; three sons Dwight (Ona) Dunbar, Charlie (Sherry) Dunbar, and Jeff (Shelly) Carpenter; a daughter Carlena Dunbar; a brother Lewis (Donna) Dunbar; Sisters Barb Maggard, Connie (Jerry) Graley, Farris Stover, Jane Ann (Lenny) Hodge, and Nora Owen. Ten grandchildren, Kayla, Olivia, Alisha, Andrew, Toby, Becca, Megan, Charles "Jr.", Katie and Allison; fourteen great grandchildren, Isla, Elin, Vivian, Ella, Jett, Zoey, Paisley, Oaklee, Avery, Little Man, Bubby, Penelope, Roselynn Mae "Roo", Buford Howard (Boo Boo), and one arriving in September 2024.
Funeral services will be conducted at Workman's Creek Methodist Church on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 3 PM with Rev. Jerry Tyree and Rev. Ed Green officiating. Burial will follow at the Workman's Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1 PM until 3 PM on Friday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Toby Dunbar, Jesse Raynes, Harley Raynes, Patrick Raynes, Craig Dunbar, Jeff Carpenter, Todd Dunbar and Greg Toney.
The family would like to thank the ICU Staff at Raleigh General Hospital, as well as 4th Floor Nursing Staff.
