Buford Landon Terry, a beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away on July 31st, 2024, in his hometown of Beckley, WV. Born to Esta Brook Clemons and Floyd C. Terry on April 1st, 1937, in Surveyor, WV. Burford was a lifelong resident of Beckley, except for living in Cleveland, OH with his brothers for a few years in the 1950's. Buford was a true Beckley native, where his life and legacy were deeply interwoven with the community he loved and served.
Buford's early years were shared with siblings, whom he loved, Kendall, Norris, Gene, Tilden, Jewel, Gloria, and Teresa. He often spoke of his siblings, sharing memories of farming, fishing, swimming, hunting and living in the old farmhouse with their devoted mother and father. Buford graduated from Trap Hill High School, attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV and graduated from the IBM Business School.
Buford was a proud native of Beckley, where he had a long career managing businesses, attending the Family Worship Center on Pinewood Drive and volunteering at the Beckley Dream Center.
In 1970 Buford married the love of his life, Lucy C. Terry. Beyond a loving marriage, they shared a love for gardening, berry picking, and canning fruits & vegetables. They also shared a love for taking care of sick animals and with the tender care of both Buford and Lucy they found their forever home becoming beloved pets of the Terry family. Their home was filled with love and laughter while raising their two children: Melonie Ann Terry of Beckley, and Daniel "Scott" Terry of Sherrills Ford, NC & Beckley, WV.
Sadly, Buford was predeceased by his parents Floyd and Esta Terry of Beckley, brothers Kendall Terry of Lester, Gene (Bernice) Terry of Beckley, Norris (Gerry) Terry of Lester, Tilden Terry of Beckley, Jewel (Jack) Deck of Mabscott, WV.
His life and cherished memories are celebrated by his wife: Lucy Terry of Beckley, children: Melonie Terry of Beckley, Scott Terry of Beckley & NC, sisters Gloria (Harold) Webb of Lynchburg, VA, Teresa (Robert) Acord of Maple Meadow, WV, and sister-in-law: Gladola Terry of Lester, along with many nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Pepper.
A service to celebrate Buford's life will be held on Monday, August 5th, 2024, at the Family Worship Center located at 224 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, WV 25801. Family visitation will be from noon to 1pm. Guest visitation will be from 1pm -2pm. The funeral service will begin at 2pm. Following the service, Buford will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, with a reception to follow at the Beckley Dream Center at 224 Pinewood Drive.
Speakers at the service will include Pastors Luke Hodges and Wayne E. Wicker.
In lieu of flowers, the Terry family kindly requests donations be made to the Beckley Dream Center at 224 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 in Buford's honor, to further serve the community he loved.
