With a very heavy heart, we announce the passing of Carl Edwin Massey, 87, of Daniels, West Virginia, at his home on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Born on May 20, 1938 at Beckley, West Virginia, he was the son of Jasper Carl Massey and Bessie Mae Brammer Massey of Daniels, West Virginia. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ila Massey (sister), Vernard Massey (brother), and Gladys Rice (sister).
Edwin was married to the love of his life, Anna Lee Meador Massey for 63 years- until her passing on July 21, 2025. Together, they shared three daughters- Deanna Massey, and deceased husband, Sheldon Bell of Montross, Virginia- Pamela Meador, and her husband Mike of Daniels, West Virginia- and Sheila Barnett, and her husband Donald of Shady Spring, West Virginia. They would later on enjoy having three grandchildren that brought them so much pride, love, and enjoyment- Zachary Meador, Olivia Barnett, and Samuel Barnett.
Edwin was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He served as a Communications Specialist and Teletype Operator, and held a top-secret clearance during his service in Heidelberg, Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War Era. He is survived by a host of friends, former co-workers from Sherwin Williams Paint, and colleagues from the Beaver Lions Club where he loved being in the service of others for many years. And he leaves behind a very special friend in his nephew Charlie Rice of Beaver, West Virginia.
Whether joking with everyone during get-togethers, watching his family grow and achieve, or surviving a family UNO night- Edwin always loved sharing and laughing with his family. Carl Edwin Massey has lived a good life- and he will be missed dearly by those who knew him. But we are comforted to know that he is with God- and reunited with the love of his life, Anna Lee. Edwin leaves a legacy of love and care. He was a steady and grounded family man, one who proudly kept his values- and those he loved close to his heart. Until we all meet again, we will love and miss you, Edwin.
