Charles Arnott
On February 24, 2012, at 5:45 p.m., Charles H. "Charlie" Arnott, age 83, of Beckley moved to his new home prepared by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Charlie was born to the late Harry and Carrie Arnott on February 7, 1929.
Charlie served his country in the United States Army in the early 1950s. His formal education included graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School of Beckley, the University of Maryland, and Lincoln Welding School. Following retirement he engaged in metal turning/machinist training at Raleigh County Vo-Tech. Charley also owned and operated "Porta-Weld Service" in Beckley for many years and constructed Butler Steel Buildings for about the last 10 years of his business career.
An active member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church for nearly 50 years, Charlie was involved in many facets of that ministry and devoted much time, energy, expertise and resources to mission projects and people around the community and in many parts of the world. His hobbies included honey bee keeping, hunting, fishing, and metal turning and design.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Almeda West, affectionately known as "Mickie"; a brother Ralph Arnott; and a sister Mary Wagner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 33 years Mrs. Grace (Van Vossen) Arnott, at home; and his lovely stepmother Ruby Arnott; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Charlie will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Pastor Michael King officiating and Andrew Davis assisting. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
Visitation will be held 6 till 8 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on Monday, February 27, 2012.
Pallbearers will be members of the church. Honorary pallbearers will be Doff Patton, Raymond Osborne, and Doff Huffman.
