Charles "Charlie" Earl Upton, age 95, of Lanark, WV, left this world for his Heavenly home on June 13, 2025, at Bowers Hospice House following a short illness.
Charlie was born on May 17,1930 in Madams Creek, WV.
He was known for his great love of motorcycles and was still riding until just a few months preceding his death. He was also known for his exceptional skills in driving tractor/ trailers. He proudly and stubbornly renewed his CDL at the age of 91. He retired from the UMWA, driving coal trucks for Tracy and Warren Hylton, where he was somewhat of a local legend and known for "schooling" younger drivers. He was also an avid and skilled gardener, growing the most beautiful and lush gardens imaginable.
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Mary (Mick) Upton, his parents James and Nettie Upton, siblings Judd, Loyal (Bill), George, Russell, Garnet, Twila Jean, and Betty; nephew, Randy; niece, Drema; and great nephew, Jason.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters Pamela Upton of Beckley, WV and Dawn (Tina) Smith of Cullman, AL; grandchildren Tasha (Jonboy) Monk, Adam (Tiffany) Trowbridge, Fabree (Dustin) Freeman, and Shannon Fray; great grandchildren Oakley, River, Ayla, Aubreigh, Abram, and Caroline; many nieces and nephews, especially Larry and Leisa Blevins; countless friends and neighbors, especially Lenval "Shayar" Jarrett, April Morton, Carolyn Thompson, and Shirley Genburg; and his beloved dog, Nemo.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Bowers Hospice House, especially nurse Kara. The kindness and support received was incredible and we will never forget any of you.
The service for Charlie will be held at St Stephens Episcopal Church, 200 Virginia Street, Beckley WV, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with visitation at 12pm and service at 1pm.
