Charles Harless Sweeney

Charles Harless "Bill" Sweeney, age 87, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born on March 30, 1937 in Long Branch, WV, he was the son of the late Walter Leonard Sweeney and Ruby Vesta Foster Sweeney.

Mr. Sweeney was a retired coal miner, and a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of Pikeview Christian Church, and was a proud member of the UMWA. Mr. Sweeney enjoyed hunting, fishing,  archery, and gardening in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sweeney was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Sweeney; a son Boyd Walter Sweeney, and a  sister Shirley.

Those survivors  left to cherish his memory include his children, James Blankenship and wife Gina of Mount Hope, Catherine Ellis of Hurricane, Charles Sweeney Jr. and wife Ann of Vonore, TN, and Beverly Wickline and husband Joe of Beckley. Grandchildren, Jamie Remy, Amanda Floyd, Jeremy Blankenship, Crissy Ward, Rustyn Boothe, Kelly Moore, Brittany Sweeney, Brooke Mastrostefano, Charles Sweeney III, Tyler Sweeney, Cody Wickline and Caleb Wickline, along with many great grandchildren. A sister, Susan Tilley of Beckley also survives.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 3:30 PM with Dr. Jim Owston officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. A private burial will follow at Pax Community Cemetery.
