Christine Marie Houck

Christine Marie Houck, 83, of Beaver peacefully stepped into eternity surrounded by her family at Bowers Hospice House on July 9, 2024.

She was the daughter of the late Earl and Carmen Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam Houck; Sons: Jeff Houck, Freddie Persinger, and Sammy Dale Houck; Daughters: Judy Keaton, Cathy Redden, and Theresa Dawson; Brothers: Billy and Leon Young; Sisters: Charlotte Hicks and Gail Webb; son-in-law, Rodney Redden; Grandson in law Joshua Toma, Granddaughter in law Kimberly Persinger along with a host of brothers and sisters in law and other extended relatives and friends.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Rhonda Kinder and her husband, Earl; special granddaughter, Cynthia Houck-Toma and her husband, Sean Meredith, along with their children, Kholton, Logan, Jacy, Brody, and Dezirae, all of whom Christine cherished and who've been fully committed to loving, caring, and advocating for her while creating lasting memories to hold near and dear to their hearts; who've devoted their time, love, and dedication to insuring she led a life full of joy, happiness, and peace; Sisters: Tammy Carter, Linda Miller (Ron), and Christie Cummings; Brothers: Sammy Young (Sharon), Richard Young, and Bobby Young; brother-in-law, Mike Webb. Grandchildren: Henry Dawson (Amalia), Mike Newton (Ashley), Kristie Lewis (Brodrick), Lora Horrocks (Jimmy), Mandy Redden, Sam Persinger (Crystal), Jeffrey Persinger, Christopher Persinger, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Special nieces: Lisa Barnabi, Connie Rhodes, Miranda Miller; special friend, Ocie Helton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and friends.

Christine was born at home on June 12, 1941, in Saxon WV. Christine went on to achieve her GED while working full time as a waitress at the Carraige House inside the Ramada inn while raising her children until the opportunity came for her to be able to devote herself as a homemaker and raise her children whom of which was her greatest treasures.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking for her family and will always be remembered for her delicious homemade biscuits and baked goods, no one was allowed to leave her house with an empty stomach. She enjoyed watching her gameshows and western's, being outside in her garden, decorating and had a love for shopping. Many memories were made sitting around the table playing cards & dice.

Christine was of the Christian faith and dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She was well-known for her tenacious and outgoing personality, and spending time with her family. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen by all who knew and loved her. She never met a stranger and she accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile. She was very adventurous. Age was just a number to her, and nothing held her back from what she wanted to do and always spoke her mind. She was a lover of life and new experiences including riding in the jeep with the top down; having her grandson take her on four-wheeler rides among many other things. She was charismatic and funny, always telling tales and making people laugh. Even in the face of the tragedies she had suffered she remained steadfast and somehow managed to pick herself up and bless all those around her. She will forever be known as the strongest women anyone has met. She is reunited in heaven with 4 of her children, her devoted husband of 28 years and many others which she has yearned for, and in the arms of Jesus. She leaves behind memories that her family will forever treasure. If love could have kept her here, she would be earth bound for eternity. We miss her immensely already and look forward to seeing her again.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Raleigh General Hospital's 4N Nursing and CNA staff, especially Nurse Katie, and Emily Scarbro in SICU along with other SICU Nursing and CNA Staff; The Villages at Greystone - Manor House Dusty, Joann, Mandy and Jason; and Bowers Hospice House staff: Amber, Leslie, Joyce, and especially Melissa. The compassion and support our family have received during this time is unmatched by none and we will forever be grateful for the love and care shown not only to Christine but to our family.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 15, 2024 at 2 PM at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Pastor Ronald Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to funeral services on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Newton, Henry Dawson, Brodrick Lewis, Sean Meredith, Sam and Jeffrey Persinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Kinder, Kholton Toma, Logan Hancock, Brody Meredith, Chris and Sam Powers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make donations in Christine's honor to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or any Dementia/Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease foundation of your choice.

Revelation 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
