Connie Sue
Carter
Jul 13, 1943 — Aug 29, 2026
Connie Sue Carter, 83, of Blue Jay passed away on August 29, 2026.
Connie was born July 13, 1943, in Blue Jay, to the late Frederick Chester and Sylvia Arminta Lea Ransom Carter.
Connie graduated from Shady Spring High School in 1962. She was employed in customer service at G.C. Murphy’s, Grants, and May Office in Beckley and Family Dollar in Beaver. She retired from Family Dollar.
Connie was a lifelong member of Blue Jay United Methodist Church, now Blue Jay Friendship Church. She taught Sunday School for more than 30 years and sharing her love of God with the children of Blue Jay brought her great joy and left a lasting mark on many. She continued serving through the church in a variety of ways until her transition to Pine Lodge in 2022. Connie never met a stranger and shared a smile with all who crossed her path. She loved connecting with her family, church family, neighbors, and customers sharing treats, stories, and her special laugh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Dean and Bill, her sister Phyllis Jewell, sister-in-law Sally, brother-in-law Bill Jewell, nephew Gregory Carter and niece Bobbi Lou Carter.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are: her nephew and caretaker, Jim Jewell of Blue Jay; nieces, Michele (Gordon) Clark of West Columbia, WV, and Lori (Matt) Rocker of Haymarket, VA; and a number of great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
The family extends special thanks to her caregivers at Pine Lodge who took care of her for the last four years. They ensured she was safe and allowed her to continue to share her servant heart as she would help with tasks and visit other residents.
Funeral services will be held at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, WV on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 12 PM until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.
