Darel Denver Greene, Sr,

Darel Denver Greene Sr., age 80, of Flat Top, WV passed away after a prolong illness at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Crystal Springs in Elkins, WV on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Born on May 22, 1945 in Ghent, WV, he was the elder son of the late Azel Paris Greene and Glenna Faye Wills Greene.

Darel was a graduate of Shady Spring High School in 1963, and also graduated from Bluefield State College. Following that, he went on to the West Virginia State Police Academy graduating in 1974.

He was a deputy sheriff for the Raleigh County Sheriff's Police Department, and served as a deputy US Marshall for a time. After he left the police force, Darel worked for Modern Woodmen Insurance, before opening his own private investigation business.

He was an avid western fan, and had met many of the Old Western Cowboys.

Darel is survived by his former wife, and mother of his four children, Rosemary Greene; daughter Tina Bennett and husband Jerry; sons, Darrell Greene Jr., Steven Greene and Jeff Greene; a granddaughter he raised as his own daughter, Jessica Greene and her companion Matthew Plumley.

Other grandchildren include, Andrea Wareham and her husband Ryan, Johnathan Bennett, Jennifer Bennett, Haley Morris and her husband Jeff, and Heath Greene; great grandchildren, Kirra Plumley, Kaiden Plumley, Raylan Plumley, Jensen Moriss, Jeremy Lee Jr, Nathaneil Lee, Riley Lee, and Kayleigh Wareham; his brother Donald David Sr., and Debbie; two nephews, Donald David Jr. and wife Lisa and Joe Greene.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Shady Spring, WV on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Fred Hart officiating. Burial will follow at the Greene Cemetery at Flat Top, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Darel's sons, nephews, and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Greene, Heath Greene, Jerry Bennett and Ryan Wareham.
