David “Sawmill” Darrell Setliff

David Darrell Setliff, age 78, of Cool Ridge, WV passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Hilltop Center at Hilltop, WV.

Born on December 26, 1946 at Killarney, WV, he was the son of the late Walter Setliff and Mary Susan Feazell Setliff.

David or "Sawmill", as he was known by family and friends, was a retired coal miner, and a member of the UMWA. He was of the Catholic faith, being a member of Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church. David was a US Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed gardening, and had operated his own sawmill for several years.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Vera Jane Setliff; by daughter Jennifer Ann Bennett; by brothers Eddie, Norman, Noel, Mike, Keith, Jerry, Paul and Walter "Buddy" Setliff; by sisters Reta East and Brenda Gail Setliff.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his son David Allen Setliff of Plano, TX; a granddaughter, with whom they shared their home, Brittney Nicole Bennett and her fiancé Jared Presley of Cool Ridge; a brother, Rev. Orville Setliff and wife Rachel of Cool Ridge; five sisters, Mary Cook of Shady Spring, Carol O'Donnell of Cool Ridge, Dorcas Baldwin of Cool Ridge, Rebecca Matics and husband Sam of Shady Spring, and Claire Cavallier of Parma, OH; step son Terry Saunders of Gallipolis, OH; a son-in-law Patrick Sean Bennett of Canandaigua, New York; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his "best friend", Reptar, Brittney's dog, who gave him much joy.

A service will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 3:00 PM with his brother Rev. Orville Setliff, Rev. Mister Harry Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Setliff Family Cemetery at Cool Ridge, WV. A family visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home, with friends visiting with the family from 2:00 PM until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members.
