David Lee Tolliver

David Lee Tolliver, 76, of Beckley, WV, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 3, 2024. Born September 5, 1947 in Pierpoint, WV, he was the son of the late William and Emma Tolliver. He was also preceded in death by brothers William O. Tolliver and Teddy E. Tolliver.

David wore many hats. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army, 101st Airborne Division. In 1968, he was an ambulance driver in Mullens, WV, for the Wyoming General Hospital where he met his wife Pat. They were married for 56 years. He retired from the Beckley Fire Department after 281⁄2 years of service and during that time he was appointed and served as a State Fire Marshal. He also worked for the Raleigh County Board of Education as a bus driver for 10+ years, in which the children lovingly called him George, and he was currently serving his third term as a County Commissioner, where he loved serving the people of Raleigh County. He also served on many boards in the county. His main goal was to get clean water to all citizens of Raleigh County. He enjoyed 30+ years of officiating basketball and umpiring baseball games all across Southern West Virginia.

David was a long-standing member of Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church where he served in various capacities. He loved hunting, fishing, beekeeping, and working at the family farm; however, the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish the memory of David are his wife Pat, daughter Tammi Beckett (Phil) of Oak Ridge, TN, and his son Kevin Tolliver (Erin), of Beckley, WV, grandchildren, Morgan Bradley (Dylan) of Andersonville, TN, and Daniel Beckett of Knoxville, TN, Hunter Tolliver (Ashton), and Chase Tolliver of Beckley, WV, great grandchildren, Riggs and Kyler Bradley of Andersonville, TN. Honorary grandchildren include Jacob Sheets, Ashley Frye, and Emilee Baughan.

Survivors also include his sisters, Rosemary Whittemore (Bennie) of Charles Town, WV, and Pat Brooks (David) of Beckley, WV, brother Roger Tolliver (Loraine) of Crab Orchard, WV, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Services will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Raleigh County Convention Center. Receiving of friends will be from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and services will follow with Pastor George Wood officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Brian's Safehouse.
