Deborah Evonne Smith

Deborah Evonne Smith, age 69, of Crab Orchard, WV, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV.

Born on January 3, 1956 in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late William Avery Johnson and Mary Agnes Hamrick Johnson.

Mrs. Smith attended Woodrow Wilson High School and obtained her G.E.D. in 1974. She was formerly employed by Borden Burger, and the Commission on Aging. She coached T-Ball teams for several years at Beckley Little League. She was a member of the Crab Orchard Church Of The Brethren. Mrs. Smith enjoyed her grandchildren, church, crocheting, quilting, camping and reading.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Smith; a son, Jeremy Allen Smith; brother, Charlie Lee Johnson; two sisters, Ethel Lorain "Judy" Johnson Snuffer and Rosemary Johnson Gardner.

Those left to carry her memories include her husband of 49 years, Stephen Mark Smith of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Cherie Dawn Hughes of Crab Orchard;  sons, Stephen Mark Smith II and wife Frankie of Lawrenceburg, TN, Jesse Aaron Smith of Crab Orchard; a daughter Margret Jane Smith Perdue of Coal City; a son-in-law, Cameron Perdue of Coal City;

Grandchildren, James, Lisa, Nathan, Jesse, Jerri, Hunter, Kegan, Taylor, Jorden, Renee, and Adalyn, and the many who called her mama; great grandchildren, Jeffery, Mason, Raegan, Annabelle, Lillian, Skylynn, Sophee, Silas, Aubree, Kade, Spencer, and Bryson.

A brother, William Avery Johnson and wife Tammy of Beckley, and a sister, Susan Gwinn of Crab Orchard.

Funeral services will be  conducted at  the Crab Orchard Church Of The Brethren on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Norman Hamm officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Following her personal wishes, cremation will follow.
