Dillard Glen "Pat" Whitt passed away on October 11, 2024.
Pat as he was known by family and friends was born on July 1, 1939 at Oakvale, WV, and was the son of the late Dillard Whitt and Rachel Wimmer Whitt.
He was also preceded in death by grandparents, Elber and Iva Whitt; sister Virginia "Nookie" Adkins; half brother Deweylyn Whitt.
Dillard graduated from Princeton High School. He served in the United States Air Force as a pilot in the Vietnam War, having survived being shot down by the enemy during the war. Dillard was a Mechanical Engineer, working until he was 70 years of age, before retiring in Alabama, with his plan to move back to West Virginia (which he was able to do in 2010).
Dillard was given hands of many great talents! Being a great musician, his favorite being a mandolin and guitar. Not only a "special" musician, but also an excellent avid and gifted worker with his "mind" and hands. He made a beautiful mandolin and several guitars after retiring. Dillard enjoyed the work from purchasing the special wood, with long hours of patience until he could play the beautiful chords of music. It gave him great joy to play and share his music, with family members and many friends. His music was always so entertaining to everyone who had the opportunity to hear. Always being called just "Pat" to his family, we all will cherish and hold to our great memories.
Those left to cherish his memory include his "cousin", "best friend," and "care giver", Don T. Crook of Cool Ridge, WV; several more cousins and close friends; half sisters, Shelia Whitt Childers(Terry) of Rainelle, WV, Vicky Whitt Snyder (Jim) of Vinton, VA; half brother Larry Whitt, West River, Md.
Graveside rites will be held at the Crook Cemetery at Blue Jay Six Road, Cool Ridge, WV on Thursday October 24, 2024 at 3 PM.
Dillard will be laid to rest in peace beside his grandparents.
