Donald Lee Collins, age 84, of Beckley, WV passed away December 26, 2024, following a short illness.
Born November 21,1940 in Brenton, WV, he was the son of the late Snowden Collins and Ila Elswick Collins.
Mr. Collins was retired/disabled and had worked in Virginia at Coleman Furniture, Pulaski Furniture, and as a welder at Long-Airdox. His favorite hobbies included playing stringed instruments in the two Virginias, and he was a member of the Ghent and Sophia weekly jams - most recently playing his bass guitar. He loved flying large scale model airplanes and in his early years, working on cars – just about anything mechanical.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James Edward Collins, Delmar Fonzo Collins, Alfred Collins, Arnold Ray Collins and two sisters, Flossie Collins and Betty Lou Collins, his former wife, Juanita Booker Collins and their son, Donald Lee Collins, III (Donny).
Those left to cherish his memory are his former wife and mother of two of his children, Lucile Shaver Ames of Clearwater, FL; son, Donald Lee Collins, Jr. of Clearwater, FL; a daughter, Donna Lynn Collins-Weikel and husband, John of Dublin, VA; a granddaughter, Jessica Collins Henderson and husband, David of Pearisburg, VA, a grandson, Reeve Collins of Ghent, WV and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A dear friend, Tom Smith of Cool Ridge, WV shared years of music jams together, and Tom called him with prayer a few days before Mr. Collins left this life. Pastor Delores Caldwell of Dublin, VA also ministered to Mr. Collins within minutes of his passing. Mr. Collins was of the Christian faith and rested peacefully in the Lord's arms.
A memorial service will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. for family and friends. Cremains will be transported to a location that his sons enjoyed in Sarasota, FL.
