Donald Ray Haga

Donald Ray Haga, age 72, of Sophia, WV was welcomed into his Heavenly home on Wednesday, January 4, 2024.

He was born on May 08, 1951 in Beckley WV to Myrtle M. Mills Haga Basham and the late Harold Haga.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arnold and Elizabeth Haga, his maternal grandparents Lundy and Peggy Mills, his stepdad Ivan L. Basham and his sister Diana (Basham) Bolen.

He is survived by his mom, his daughter, Kathy (Jack) Bishop of MacArthur WV, his sons Richard Haga of Atlanta, GA, H. Scott Haga of Jacksonville FL, and Jason (Sherly) Haga of Orange Park, FL.  Seven grandchildren, Jenna Bishop, Kattie Haga, Destiny Haga, Nathan Haga, Jayden Haga, Skyler Haga and Emmalynn Haga and great-grandsons Elijah Gage, Kason, Elijah and I'zayah.  He is also survived by his siblings H. Glenn (Mitzi) Haga, Cindy (Jamie) Delp and Susan (Dale) Basham-Richmond, the mother of his children, Betty Haga and close cousin and best friend Kay Perry and a little knucklehead, Mason Delp.

Donald graduated from Sophia High School in 1969.  He was a disabled miner having later worked for the town of Sophia and various odd jobs helping friends out.  He loved gardening, canning, quilting and spending time with his family.  He was a very gifted quilter and made some of the most beautiful quilts for family and friends.

He was a member of Soak Creek Gospel Tabernacle and loved his church family dearly.  He was very dedicated to the church and spent countless hours attending to the church's needs from visitations, to bake sales and fund raisers to various repair and electrical work.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald's memory to Bower's Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Soak Creek Gospel Tabernacle on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2 PM with Rev. Denny Hughes and Rev. Joe Cadle officiating. Burial will follow at the Mills Cemetery at Soak Creek, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Sunday at the Church.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
