Earnest Matthew Smith

Earnest Matthew Smith, of Raleigh, West Virginia, passed away at his home on June 15, 2026.

Earnest was a man of many passions who found true joy in the simple things. An avid fan of anime and video games, he loved immersing himself in great stories and adventures. More than anything, Earnest had a giving heart; he was always the first to lend a hand with outside tasks, yard work, or any project where someone needed help. Recently, Earnest found deep comfort in returning to church and renewing his relationship with God. His favorite moments, however, were always the ones spent surrounded by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Ann Carrington (Stacy), and his father, Frank William Smith and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved daughter, Ernestine Marie Smith. He is also survived by his brothers, Sammy Smith of Raleigh, WV and his fiancée Alexandera Riley, and Mark Stacy of Tennessee and his wife Jess Stacy; his aunt, Barbara Kneece of South Carolina and her husband James Kneece; and his uncle, Bernard Stacy. Earnest was a proud uncle to three nieces and four nephews who loved him dearly, and he loved them just as much in return. He will be deeply missed by a close circle of extended family, neighbors, and friends.
