Edwin Marshall

It is with profound sadness yet with great hope that we announce the passing of Edwin Marshall, who left us peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on May 17, 1937, in Beckley, West Virginia, Edwin lived a life marked by unwavering dedication, kindness, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.

Edwin proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Altair. His service was a testament to his strong sense of duty and patriotism. Following his naval career, Edwin became a valued member of the Union of Operating Engineers, where his skill and versatility with any piece of equipment earned him great respect. His formidable work ethic, which he instilled in his children, was a hallmark of his character.

Edwin's heart was as vast as his skillset. He was known for his extraordinary capacity to love and serve, whether it was through his active role in his church, assisting neighbors, or simply sharing his infectious smile. He had a heart of gold, never spoke ill of anyone, and strived to help wherever he saw a need. His impact was felt deeply by all who knew him, and he never met a stranger.

Preceded in death by his father, Olion Marshall; mother, Nora Marshall; siblings Betty Collins, Jeanne Gravely, Lucy Moose, and James Barker; and infant daughter, Dana Marshall, Edwin is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Phyllis Marshall; children Edwin Marshall and his wife, Cynthia; Ginger Marshall; Wayne Marshall and his wife Courtney, who was a blessing in his life; as well as grandchildren Jill West, Audrey Brown, and Drake Marshall, and eight great-grandchildren. And his favorite grand dog Chloe.   He is also mourned by his best friend, Lindsey Whitten.

A service to celebrate Edwin's remarkable life will be held at 11:00 AM at Crab Orchard Baptist Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024 with Rev. Dewey Lowe and Rev. David Bush officiating.  Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. The family invites those who knew and loved Edwin to join them in honoring his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House in recognition of the compassionate care Edwin received.

Edwin Marshall will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the profound impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
