Elizabeth Osborne

Elizabeth Hajash Osborne, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, died peacefully on February 24, 2025 embraced by the love of her family. She was 93 years old. Our beloved Mimi will be forever in our hearts.

She was born on February 17, 1932, in Elbert, McDowell County, West Virginia to Stephen and Rozi Tajti Hajash, Hungarian immigrants. Elizabeth lived a life devoted to her Catholic faith and her family.  Elizabeth is a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church. She married Bobby E. Osborne, the love of her life, on August 25, 1956. They had the time of their lives for 68 years….  A great love story.

Elizabeth is a 1950 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed being a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Elizabeth has always been proud of her Hungarian heritage and had the good fortune to travel to Budapest, Hungary with her sister Rose Mary and niece Jo Ann.

Elizabeth was a devoted homemaker who filled her home with love, laughter, and the unforgettable scent of her amazing cooking (particularly cabbage rolls and Hungarian nut roll). Her sharp sense of humor and love for practical jokes, both big and small, often had us laughing until tears ran down our faces. Elizabeth found happiness in dancing, walking, bicycling, gardening, and going on drives with her husband Bob venturing through West Virginia on every back road they could find. Their favorite  motto was "this road will come out somewhere"!  Later in life she found the greatest joy in caring for her grandchildren Julia, Eric, and Megan nurturing them with the same love and devotion she gave her own children.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sister Mary and eight brothers; Joachim, Steve, Andy, George, John, Nick, Martin and Joe.  A local bridge named in honor of her brothers' WWII service was a great source of pride for Elizabeth.

She is survived by her beloved husband Bobby E. Osborne of Beckley, and her children Ralph Osborne of Charleston, West Virginia, Vicki Plumley and her husband Mike of Beckley, and Robert Osborne and his wife Susan of Beckley.  Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren Julia Fox and  husband Barrett of Marion, Illinois, Eric Plumley of Beckley and Megan Plumley of Beckley.  Also surviving is her beloved sister, Rose Mary Hajash Fulford of Waycross, Georgia.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 03, 2025, at St. Francis de Sales Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the liturgy at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Celebrants will be Rev. Rusiri Wijewickrama and Rev. Mr. Harry K. Evans. The Rite of Committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
