Ella Sue Gillenwater, age 87, of Sophia, WV passed away at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Born on March 6, 1937 at Blue Jay, she was the daughter of the late James Earl Stover and Mary M. Payne Stover.

Ms. Gillenwater was a former clerk at the Ben Franklin Store in Sophia,  WV. She had  attended Sophia Freewill Baptist Church, and was presently attending Bolt Fundamental Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing BINGO when health permitted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers James Earl Stover and J.D. Stover; a sister Joyce Ann Gimbalvo.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children, Teresa Hicks and companion Jerry Hodges of Shady Spring, Brenda Hawks and husband Curtis of Sophia, and  Evelyn of Shady Spring; two brothers Smokey Joe Stover of  Hot Springs, VA and Jackie Stover and wife Gloria of Maryland; a sister Gloria Barker of FL;  five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 2 PM with Pastor Don Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.

Family members will  serve as pallbearers.
