Elsie Marie Bennett

Elsie Marie O'Neal Bennett, age 75, of Shady Spring, WV went home to her Heavenly reward on Tuesday, January 22, 2024 following a short illness.

She was born August 2, 1948 to the late Burton and Octavia O'Neal, and was also preceded in death by her sisters Hazel Edwards and Ethel Arthur, and her brother Marcus O'Neal.

Mrs. Bennett retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education as a cook at Shady Spring High School several years ago. She enjoyed canning and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jimmy Bennett; her daughters Darlene Lester of Daniels, and Mary Rock of Sophia; her son Jimmy Bennett II of Shady Spring.  She is also survived by four grandsons, two granddaughters, two great grandsons, and two great granddaughters. Two sisters, Liz Gardner (Harley) of Beckley, Patty Jones of Beckley, and Joyce Hornsby of Shady Spring.  One brother, Eddie O'Neal of Rupert.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, January 26, 2024 at  2 PM with Rev. Bill Calhoun and Rev. William Plumley officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Plumley Cemetery at Plumley Mountain, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family and friends.  Music will be provided by Donnie Bragg and Bill Lilly.
