Obituary

On August 18, 2026, Winona Fern Evans was called home to be with the Lord.

Born on March 1, 1938 at Tams Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Kelly J. and Mossie McKinney Sizemore

Fern lived a life rooted in faith, devoted to Christ, and guided by the teachings of the Holy Bible. Fern was a woman of unwavering belief, whose love for the Lord shone through every aspect of her life. She found joy in prayer and strength in scripture. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

Fern obtained her Masters in Education through Marshall University and was a retired teacher from RCBOE having taught at Clear Fork, Sylvia and Ghent Elementary. After retiring she volunteered at Ghent Elementary by reading to the kids and helping in the classroom.

She was a Youth Coordinator at St. Mary's Methodist Church, a Circle member and she also taught young adult classes there as well. She was a "den mother" who ran her sons' Boy Scout Troop out of her home. Prior to teaching,

Fern worked at the family business at Day & Nite Garage in Beckley.

Her hobbies included reading her Bible daily along with her daily Devotions as well as Crossword puzzles and Crypto-quotes and most importantly visiting and spending time with her family. Throughout her life Fern enjoyed traveling, including several road trips to the West Coast.

Fern is survived by her son Eric Glen Evans (Angela); sisters Jean Drumheller and Polly Woodie. Brothers James Sizemore (Linda), Mark Sizemore (Kathy) and brother-in-law Karis Halsey, nieces Deb Evans, Tara Akers and Stephanie Sizemore and Kelli Winters, nephews Tim Sizemore and Chris Woodie. Grandchildren Tyler Evans, Jasmine Wood and Sydni Lester, great-grandchildren, Sloan Lester, Lily Lester and Poppy Evans along with many great nieces and nephews that she also loved dearly.
