Franklin Monroe Bevins

Franklin Monroe Bevins, age 84, of Sophia, WV, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Raleigh General Hospital, following an ongoing battle with congestive heart failure.

Born on April 28, 1941, in Carlisle, WV, he was the son of the late Marvin Bevins and Dora Bevins.

Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Buck, Jimmy, and Charles, as well as his sisters, Jean Vanscoy and Fern Gwinn.

"Frankie", as he was known by all his family and friends, grew up in Carlisle, WV. After earning his GED, he moved to Harrisonburg, VA, where he worked in a bakery for seven years. He then moved back to Sophia and opened an Esso Station in Beckley, where he worked as a mechanic as well. Toward the end of his career, he owned both Union 76 in Beckley and Happy Valley Exxon & Car Wash in Lochgelly. Aside from being a businessman, he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He loved spending time with his family–especially at family reunions, where he enjoyed lovingly competitive games of horseshoes and cornhole.
Frank undoubtedly fulfilled the great commission.

He witnessed the love of Jesus Christ everywhere he went, and he never met a stranger. Frank would ask those he encountered if they knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and the conversation would continue from there. Often, the people to whom he witnessed would say "I've got chills", to which he replied, "You're feeling the Holy Ghost". He was not ashamed of the gospel. This was his legacy.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Martha Aileen Bevins; one daughter, Leah Gwinn, and her husband, Jeff, of Beckley; one granddaughter who was his "number one buddy", Savannah Wright, and her husband, Hunter, of Bolt; two sisters, Doris DiSante of Wichita, KS and Betty Johnson of Dallas TX, along with her husband Bruce. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also remain.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV, to Celebrate the Life of Franklin Monroe Bevins on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Damon Davis and Pastor Eddie Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, WV. Friends are welcome to join the family from11:00 AM until 1:00 PM

Pallbearers will be Jeff Gwinn, Hunter Wright, Steve Cook, Stephen Ray, Ralph Ray and David Ray.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages "Give in Memory" and "Give in Honor" donations to the American Heart Association to further research on heart disease and support affected families.
