Freddie Lee Cox

Freddie Lee Cox passed away peacefully at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, West Virginia on Friday, November 15th 2024.  The Lord granted him 83 years on this Earth and blessed him many times.  He was very spiritual and often spoke of Christ and tried to spread the good word when and where he could.

Fred was born on August 7, 1941 to the late Josiah Fred and Martha Cox (Farley) both of Jumping Branch, West Virginia.  He was raised there on the family farm where he learned to hunt, fish, work hard and pal around with his brothers and many cousins.

He was an auto body technician for most of his life and learned the trade from his cousin Jim.  In his later years he took a liking to restoring antique cars for others.  Fred was an avid trap shooter in the state of Pennsylvania where he won many prizes and awards.  He spent two years in the U.S. Army based in Korea in the early 1960's and he was very proud of his service.

Fred is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Lilly and her husband Stephen of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania and Carolyn Ott and her husband Dale of Boyertown, Pennsylvania.  He has ten grandchildren, Andrew Cox, Daniel Cox and his  wife Cheyenne, Cassidy Slocum, Rylie Cox, Michael Lilly, Sarah Lilly, Dale Ott Jr, Jesse Ott, Valerie Ott and Ava Ott all residing in Pennsylvania.  Fred has seven great-grandchildren, Aubree, Levi, Jackson, Bailee, Greyson, Hudson and Emmie.  He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Richard Cox of Franklin, Ohio, Randy Cox of Ellison Ridge, West Virginia and Angela Yoney of Beckley, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jane Cox (Stroup) and a son, William J. Cox both of whom called Pennsylvania home.  Also by three brothers, Thomas Cox of Ohio and Norris Cox and Robert Cox of West Virginia.

Fred enjoyed attending church and church socials and spending time with his immediate family and large extended family alike.  He was always first with a joke and his mission was to keep everyone laughing as much as he could.  His grin was his trademark and on any given day in the Spring and Summer you could pass by and see him on his mower trimming the grass whether it needed it or not.  His family is at peace knowing he is back in the loving arms of all those that have gone on before him.

A memorial service will be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service, in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's hospital.
