Frederick Hurcial Lilly

Frederick Hurcial Lilly, 80, of Shady Spring, WV, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born in Coal City, December 12,1943, he was the son of the late Hurcial Clayton Lilly and Jewell Maxine Lilly.

Mr. Lilly was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a sergeant in the early 60's. He was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado and Augsburg, Germany. He served in the Berlin Brigade, guarding Spandau Prison.

Mr. Lilly was a devoted husband and father. He worked tirelessly to provide for them. As hard as he worked, he took time to give us wonderful memories. Weekends camping at the river with practical jokes and fishing. Long nights playing guitar and singing with family and friends. Our young lives were full of music. He was always there for the many nieces and nephews who loved him as well. Beloved by everyone who met him, he was a funny and caring man. He will be missed by many.

A member of the Open Door Church for many years, he loved his church family as well. He loved to sing in church and play his guitar. One of his greatest heartaches was being unable to attend due to his illness. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their love and support.

Mr. Lilly worked for many years with his best friend, Arland Griffith, at his business, Beaver Creek Plumbing and Heating. He retired after 50 years and remembered every customer. One of his greatest wishes was that he could have worked longer.

Mr. Lilly was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Sue Lilly, an infant brother, Douglas Preston, a sister, Judy Wilson and a brother, Roger Lilly.

Surviving siblings include Susan Szoke and Mason Lilly of Shady Spring, Sidney Lilly of Beckley and Lois Johnson and Roseanne Lilly of Hollywood, FL. Surviving family members include 3 children. Lisa Bennett (Stan), Eric Lilly (Francie), and Doug Lilly (Sarah) all Shady Spring. Seven grandchildren respectively, who adored him. Chelsea Baker of Eugene, OR, Sara Lusk (Brad) of Odd, Colton Bennett of Shady Spring. Dakota Lilly (Tiffany) of Beaver, Wade Lilly (Sierra) of Shady Spring, Jesse Lilly of Charleston, SC and Josh Lilly of Shady Spring. Nine great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly. Landon, Rosalie and Elsa Baker, Lilliana and Penelope Lusk, Milo Lilly, Laikyn, Linley, and Willow Sue Lilly who loved their Papaw Sue.

And these special people who were along for the ride, Scotty Lilly, Steven Smith, Larry, Lee and Aaren Griffith and Larry Kincaid.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Home Base Primary Care, who took such excellent care of him in his last years. The staff of the Beckley VA Medical Center who made his last days comfortable and full of love. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1 PM at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel, Shady Spring with burial to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may pay their respects from 11am-1pm.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
