Gary Leigh Simpson, age 69 of Beckley, passed away at Bowers Hospice House on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, following a sudden illness.
Born November 24, 1954 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Kenneth Brown and Joyce Combs Simpson Brown of Tennessee and the grandson of the late Okie and Charity Combs.
Mr. Simpson was a graduate of Hurricane High School and a retired iron worker for Tygart Global.
Gary was a beloved husband, loving father, doting grandfather and great grandfather. Gary loved to talk and had never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Other than his father and grandparents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy Jo Shaffer.
Those that are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 13 years, Julia White Simpson of Beckley; a daughter, Stephanie Cooper and her husband Starlin "Cooper" of Sophia; grandchildren, Aleigha Evans and her husband Chase of Prosperity, Raegan Richardson, Mia Vannatter, and Maverick Cooper, all at home; a great granddaughter, Kenzleigh Evans of Prosperity; his brother Timothy Brown and his wife, Kim of Morristown, TN and a niece, Ashley Kilgore , and her husband, Jeff and their children, Ellie and Oakley of Morristown, TN, and numerous other family and friends survive.
In keeping with his wishes, Gary was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Coal City, WV on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Rose, officiating.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church.
