George Mcmurray

George McMurray, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026. He was a deeply loved uncle, friend, mentor, and steady presence in the lives of so many.

Known for his kindness, humor, and unwavering reliability, George was the kind of person you could always count on, no matter the time, no matter the circumstance. He had a quiet strength about him, offering support without hesitation and showing up for others in ways that left a lasting impact.

George grew up in Zelienople, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Pittsburgh before making his way to West Virginia. He was proud to call West Virginia home for more than 50 years, building a life deeply connected to the New River, the mountains, and the community around him. Whether skiing, spending time on the water, or simply enjoying the peace of the outdoors, he found joy in the natural world and shared that joy with those around him. An Eagle Scout, George carried those values with him throughout his life. His love for the outdoors and dedication to mentorship led him to spend many summers working at the local Boy Scout camp, where he helped lead activities, participated in jamborees, and created lasting memories for generations of young people.

George dedicated his career to serving as a guidance counselor in local schools, where he supported and influenced countless students and families. He was known not only for his steady guidance but for the genuine care he showed to every student he encountered. In the days since his passing, an outpouring of messages from colleagues, parents, and former students has reflected just how many lives he touched and how deeply he will be missed.

George is survived by his sister, Christin Jean (McMurray) Albert; his niece, Gina (Albert) Clifford; his nephew, Harvey Albert; and five great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey E. McMurray and Ethel Jean (Vance) McMurray.

In keeping with his spirit, there will be no formal viewing. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date to honor him alongside his friends, the community, and the places he loved so much.
