George Crabtree Whitner II

George Crabtree Whitner II went to be with his Lord on July 14, 2026, at the age of 29.

George was born on June 15, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School and The Bolles School before attending Florida State University in Tallahassee.

In 2017, George followed his adventurous spirit to Montana and Colorado where he worked as a hunting guide. He later returned to Jacksonville, where he built a career in the construction industry, including founding his own directional drilling company, Fiber Finishers.

George was truly one of a kind, easily recognized for his piercing crystal blue eyes and his long sun-bleached hair. He was a natural leader, easily taking command of any situation, from the routine to the most urgent. A constant consumer of information, George readily applied his remarkable breadth of knowledge to his knack for doing things well. In this way, he was truly unique, endlessly fun and interesting to talk to, and the one everyone wanted on their team. Those who knew him will remember his authenticity, his fierce independence and the passion he poured into the people he loved and the hobbies that brought him joy.

A talented and passionate fisherman, George was most at home on the water, always looking forward to the next offshore trip, the next sunrise, and the next adventure with his best friends. He was a decorated tournament fisherman, legendary in the North Florida fishing community for his knowledge, his skill, and his love for the sport. George was truly the captain of his own ship; with a bold spirit and a strong will, he charted a course uniquely his own.

George was smart and quick-witted with a sharp sense of humor. Above all, he will be remembered for his magnetic personality and the way he brought people together. Whether captaining another adventure, sharing a story, or letting out one of his boisterous laughs, George had a way of drawing people into his circle. His larger-than-life personality, his beautiful blue eyes, and his unforgettable charm will be missed by all who loved and adored him.

George is survived by his parents, John and Ruth; his two younger sisters, Emma and Lilly; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and hundreds of friends who will forever cherish the time spent with him. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

A celebration of life will be held on August 14, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida.

The greatest tribute to George’s life is to care for one another. In his memory, the family encourages checking on friends and loved ones.
