Geraldine "Gerri" Short

Geraldine (Gerri) Walker Short, age 89, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Golden Living Nursing Home in Glasgow, WV.

Gerri was born on April 24, 1935 in McAlpin, WV, the second child of the late Howard Walker and the late Ruby Halstead Walker.

She also is pre-deceased by her husband, James (Buck) Short, who passed in 1982, and her sister Bernice Walker Grose, who passed in 2012.

Gerri graduated from Sophia High School, then, after graduation, joined the United States Navy for four years.

Gerri was a resident of Daniels WV until 2015, when she had a stroke and had to be cared for by others.  She lived at Greystone Inn until 2018, then went to Golden Living Nursing Home until her death.  She had been a member of Daniels Missionary Baptist Church and attended until the time of her illness.

She is survived by her niece, Beckie Jones (Gary) of Cool Ridge; her niece Ruth Link (John) of Shady Spring.  She also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews, and many church friends.

Gerri's remains will be cremated, and she will join her relatives in Heaven who have gone on before her.
