Gilbert Wayne Hunter

Gilbert Wayne Hunter, age 80, of Beaver, West Virginia passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Bower's House in Beckley, West Virginia.

Born on April 25, 1945 in Vincennes, Indiana, he was the son of the late Edward Hunter and Corlena Fish Hunter.

Mr. Hunter was a graduate of Charleston High School and West Virginia State College. During the Vietnam War, he served four years in the US Navy as a photojournalist.

Following his time in the Navy, he furthered his education at Indiana State University in the field of teacher education.

He made a career teaching  new product technology for General Motors.

After retiring, he served as a volunteer policeman for the city of Oxford, Ohio. During this time he returned to his love for photography.

Mr. Hunter was a member of Faith Community Church in Beckley.

Throughout his life, he was known for his gentle spirit, playful sense of humor, enjoyment of nature and love for animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Charity Ksyziak and Connie Hummerickhouse.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years Patricia McClure Hunter, daughter Sara Frost and granddaughter Kaylee Fe of Daniels, brother Lawrence Hunter of South Bend, Indiana, sister Phyllis Lance of Northridge, California, and cherished extended family and friends.

The family appreciates beyond words t he the love and special care given by the Raleigh County Commission on Aging Day Program and the Courtyard at the Villages of Greystone.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 19 at 10:30 AM at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Shady Spring, WV followed by a shared meal at Faith Community Church.
