Rev. Gordon Ray Ross Sr.

Reverend Gordon Ray Ross Sr. entered his heavenly home at the age of 82 on January 18, 2025 after a long illness. He passed away peacefully at home after spending meaningful time with family and friends.

Gordon was born in Oakland City, Indiana, to Verner and Irene (Hopper) Ross. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul Ross; his sister, Katherine Ponto; and his brother, Michael Ross.

Reverend Ross is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Connie Griffith Ross, whom he met while attending Trevecca Nazarene University. He leaves behind three children, Gordon Ross, Jr. (Melody), Heather Tarantino (Nate), and Candi Crouse (Britt); grandchildren, Gordon Ross, III, Rachel Ross, Christina Wilkinson, Kailea Sawyers, Ian Crouse, Breanna Crouse, Andrew Tarantino, and Anamarie Tarantino; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Jacob, and Lucas Ross; Mason Beamon and Lochlan Robinson; and Annie Gray Wilkinson.

Gordon worked at W.J.L.S. Radio before following his calling as a full-time Baptist minister. Over more than 60 years of ministry, he faithfully served congregations, most recently as pastor of Greenbrier Valley Baptist Church, from which he recently stepped down.

In addition to his pastoral work, Gordon enjoyed international travel and landscape photography.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Maxwell Hill Baptist Church in Beckley, WV, under the care of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapels. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many family and friends who have offered their support. They are especially grateful to Maxwell Hill Baptist Church for their kindness, to caregiver Belinda Ellison for her dedicated care, and to the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their compassionate assistance. Your love, prayers, and generosity have provided great comfort and are deeply appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
