Gusta "Skipper" Hulyn Taylor

Gusta Hulyn "Skipper" Chamberlain Taylor, age 77, of Beckley, WV passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.

Born on September 4, 1948 in Sophia, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Chamberlain and Kathleen Kidd Chamberlain.

Mrs. Taylor was a former employee of Beckley Appalachian Hospital and Beckley Hospital in the Admissions Department. She was a former employee of WWNR and WTNJ, as a program coordinator. Mrs. Taylor last worked at Beckley Newspapers in the Bookkeeping Department.

She was a member of  the Mountain View Church of God. Mrs. Taylor served as a Girls Scout Leader, team mother for baseball teams, and served as a Sunday School Teacher at her church. She was a member of the Good News Club, where she was a teacher. She and her husband provided Bibles and treats for various schools in Raleigh County. She was very active in various other churches she attended, and also was very active in her community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Kelly Taylor Grimes; by sister Jackie, and by infant sister Sheila.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of nearly 59 years, Gary Ray Taylor; two sons, Gary Ray Taylor Jr., and wife Michelle of Sophia, and Chad  Taylor and wife Natalie of Sophia; a granddaughter who was raised as a daughter, Taylor Beth Taylor of Beckley; a brother, Kennith Chamberlain and wife Donna of Blairsville, GA; three sisters, Vickie Lee Phillips and husband Carlos of Zanesville, OH, Trima Miller and husband Frank of Beckley, and Cathy Jo Valdes and husband Mark of Flowood, MS; grandchildren, Christopher Taylor and wife LaKrista, Jeremy Taylor, Chad Taylor Jr. and wife Ciera, Joshua Taylor and companion Bailey, and Liam Taylor; five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Gusta "Skipper" Taylor on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Amos  E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of  Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV. with Bishop Kevin Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family members will  serve as pallbearers.

Liam Taylor will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
