Harlie Melvin Elkins, age 77, of Beckley, WV, passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV on Thursday, September 10, 2026, following a long illness.

Born on October 26, 1948 in Beckley, he was preceded in death by parents, Arlenah Powers and Lawerence Elkins.

Mr. Elkins was a graduate of Glen Rogers High School, and was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in the United States Army, where he was wounded in battle.

He was employed by the Wyoming County Board of Education, with 35 years of service.

Mr. Elkins was of the Baptist faith, loved to work outside, and enjoyed going to the beach.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Emily; his children, Amy (Ted) Stover, Michelle (John) Payne, and Larry (Amanda) Elkins; his grandchildren, Adrianna (Vince) Walker, Teddy (Allison) Stover, Alleeah Elkins, Ajontee Payne, and Sydney and L.J. Elkins. Five great grandchildren, Jayce, Greyson, Grayson, Adalynn, and Jax.

Two sisters, Lavonne Wooten of Roseville, OH, and Charlene Sharp of West Liberty, OH; a brother Marvin Powers of Laurelville, OH.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Northgate Baptist Church, 301 Pinewood Drive, Beckley, WV on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Josh Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Wednesday at the church. 

Pallbearers will be Ted Stover, Teddy Stover, Josh Wooten, Micah Workman, Kent Taylor, L.J. Elkins, Vince Walker, and Rick Hensel.
