Hayden Vaughn Proctor

January 4, 2010 – February 14, 2025

It is with infinite sadness that we announce the passing of Hayden Vaughn Proctor, of Maple Fork, who left this world on February 14, 2025, at the age of 15, following a very recent diagnosis of juvenile ALS. Despite the challenges he faced, Hayden's spirit remained strong, and he continued to bring joy, laughter, and love to everyone around him.

Hayden was born in Charleston, West Virginia, far ahead of schedule, at 25 1/2 weeks, weighing only 1 pound, 12 ounces. His early arrival and fierce fight for life were a testament to his strength, resilience, and determination. From that moment on, Hayden's journey was nothing short of extraordinary.

Hayden is survived by his parents, Mallory and Jason Proctor; brother, Lincoln Proctor; grandparents, Jeanne Larson and Dewitt McKinney; aunt, Kacey Hess, and her daughter, Hadley Hess; along with a host of extended family. Hayden shared an especially close bond with his cousin Hadley, creating countless cherished memories. His family was his heart, and he adored spending time with them, especially his beloved grandmother, affectionately known as "Yaya."

Hayden's life was further enriched by his autism diagnosis, which brought many special people into his life who quickly became like family. His occupational therapist, Miranda Wilson, was a constant presence and a source of support for both Hayden and his family. Hayden was also deeply loved by his great aunt, Lisa Wriston; great uncle, Rick Wriston; cousin, Bonnie Hanna; and cousins Taylor and Emily Martin. These individuals were always there for Hayden, especially his grandmother, providing love and care that will never be forgotten.

Hayden is preceded in death by his grandfather Carl Larson and his uncle Isaac Hess, both of whom will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

Hayden had a unique spirit that made him stand out. He found joy in the simple things—whether it was a trip to Walmart, enjoying a soda, or watching Young Sheldon. He loved sitting on his favorite rock by the creek and taking walks to the pond on his grandmother's farm. His infectious laughter, beautiful curls, radiant smile, and warm hugs will forever be cherished. His love for holding hands and the special connection he shared with Yaya will be remembered as a testament to his deep affection and caring nature.

Hayden taught those around him invaluable lessons: the acceptance of others' disabilities and differences, the importance of enjoying life's simple pleasures, and the power of patience. He also had the privilege of being supported and inspired by several special teachers, including Linda McGuffin, Lori Oakland, and George Fama. These educators helped Hayden grow in ways that will be remembered forever.

Full of energy, intelligence, and a loving heart, Hayden touched everyone with his pure soul. Though his time with us was far too short, the love and joy he gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jim Bowyer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry funeral home, 1901 South Kanawha St., Beckley, WV. Burial will immediately follow services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
