Hazel Large age 96 of Sevierville, Tennessee, formerly of Daniels, WV passed away Saturday December 28, 2024 in Sevierville, Tennessee.
She was born on October 4, 1928 in the coal camp of Slab Fork, WV. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Nina Nicely; husband Kenneth Large; daughter Mary Ellen McQuitty; brothers Phillip and Kenneth Nicely.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Ann Large; special friend, Becky Jenkins; granddaughters, Amber Gilkey, Crystal Mester and Megan Priest; sister, Mona Farley; sister-in-law, Alice Nicely; four great grandchildren, four nieces, and one nephew.
Hazel retired from Allegheny Virginia School System in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and after retiring , she and Kenneth relocated to Daniels, West Virginia, to an area they both loved. Hazel moved to Sevierville, Tennessee after the passing of her husband.
She loved to read, and you could not supply her with enough books. Hazel also enjoyed knitting, spending time with her family, and sharing memories of growing up in a coal camp.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dale Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Lester First Church of God, in Lester, WV, or to My People Senior Activity Center (home bound senior meal program) in Sevierville, Tennessee.
