On March 22, 2025, Helen Marie (Crawford) Lytton, loving mom, grandma, sister and friend, with family gathered around her, entered through the gates of Heaven and into the arms of her Heavenly Father, at The Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV. She was 90 years old.
She was born on June 5, 1934 to the late Carson and Loreta McGraw Crawford, in Oswald, WV.
Helen married the love of her life, Robert C. (Bob) Lytton, on February 19, 1956, who preceded her in death on June 17, 1995. Through their 40 years of marriage, they were the proud parents of 4 children: Pam, Greg, and Susan. Heaven sent them a son, Benjamin, who became an angel prior to birth.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are: daughter, Pam (Cam) Ford of Hico, WV; son, Greg (Twila) Lytton of Myrtle Beach, SC, and daughter, Susan (Rick) Lewis of Fayetteville, WV.
She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Matt (Lorah) Ford of South Charleston, WV; Katy (Derek) Lilly of Princeton, WV; Kristi (Blake) Koepfer of Noblesville, IN; Angie Lytton (Chris) of Myrtle Beach, SC; Allison (Michael) Benson of Victor, WV; Beth Lytton (Andrew) of Charleston, SC; Emily (Hunter) White of Frametown, WV.
She was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren: Emelia Ford, Jameson Koepfer, Draden and Kamryn Lilly, Corbin Koepfer, Kinsleigh Lewis, and Greyson White.
She also leaves behind her last living sibling, a sister, Margaret Jones of Daniels, WV; several nieces, nephews, as well as a host of friends.
Other than her parents, husband, and stillborn son, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters in law; Galen and Viola Crawford, Norman and Betty Crawford, brother-in-law Casey Jones, two special great grandchildren, Baby Bensons, a niece, a nephew, and special friend, John Earl Martin.
Helen was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, Class of 1951, former member of Blue Jay Methodist Church, Blue Jay, WV, Summersville Baptist Church in Summersville, WV, and spent the later part of her years attending Faith Community Church, Beckley, WV. The last 2 ½ years, she attended Ansted Baptist Church with her two daughters. Helen loved serving her Lord and Savior in any way she was able. She played the piano in many churches since she was a little girl and was a Lay Speaker. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, singing in church choirs and going to choir competitions. Helen never failed to tell anyone who crossed her path just how good God was. Her favorite saying was "My God is good!" Up until her last breath, she told everyone that Jesus loves them.
Her children, grandchildren and great children were very precious to her and brought her so much joy and love. She was the "grandma" that was always up for a good time, willing to participate in their lives, attend athletic events, concerts, dance recitals, graduations and more. The sweet memories they have of her will be her being so fun and silly. She never failed to let her family know how much she loved them and made sure they never doubted that or would forget. She was a former volunteer at Raleigh General Hospital and The Raleigh County Commission on Aging.
Helen will be deeply missed by her family, and all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, life and serving God. She was known as "the life of the party" and "head honcho" by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Genesis Ansted Center for the care they provided to her over the past couple years, to the staff at Hospice of Southern WV, and The Bowers Hospice House for bringing the extra love, peace and comfort to her in the last days of her life on earth.
