Howard Vaughn Thurston

Howard Vaughn Thurston of Flat Top, WV was born on April 29, 1944 and completed his earthly journey on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Vaughn was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in the early sixties. After discharge from the Army, Vaughn was a barber and cosmetologist. He was a supervisor with Maxim's Beauty Salon for several years in multiple states. He was owner/operator of The Barber and Beauty Salon in Beaver, WV until his retirement.

Vaughn was the son of the late Howard Earl Thurston and Robbie Lea Strickland. He was born in Louisiana and raised in Arlington, Texas by his late grandparents, Nichols and Laura Thurston.  He was also preceded in death by a sister Laura Beth Crookshank.

Vaughn is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Leda Maxine Thurston; a son Rick Thurston and wife Kirsten of Arlington, Texas; a daughter Pam Lusby of Arlington, Texas. He was a proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and seven great  grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Nancy and Patricia, as well as a brother David Thurston and wife Jerri of Arlington, Texas. Vaughn also leaves behind special canine friend, Maggie.

A Service to Celebrate Vaughn's Life will  be held at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Thursday, August,  1, 2024 at 1 PM with Rev. Terry Hatcher officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
