James Wilmer Canaday Jr., age 70, of Crab Orchard, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Born on December 9, 1955 in Beckley, he was the son of the late James Wilmer Canaday Sr. and Evelyn Mae Bragg Canaday.
Mr. Canaday was a member of Glen White Church of God. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and racing cars and motorcycles.
He worked as a lineman at the Raleigh County Airport, Kidd's Garage on Harper Road from 1976-1982, Phillips Machine Shop in 1982, and Joe's Garage from 1983 -1995. Mr. Canaday became disabled in 1996.
He was preceded in death by parents, James Canaday Sr. and Evelyn Canaday; by brother Ernie, and by sisters Ida Mae McCoy and Lilly Rutherford.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Garnet Elaine Scott Canaday; his children, James W. Canaday III and wife Sherry of Jumping Branch, and Jennifer Cox and husband John of Beaver; two grandchildren, Autumn and Aidan of Jumping Branch; brothers, Carles Canaday and wife Effie of Crab Orchard, Donald Canaday of Beckley, and Robert Canaday and wife Laura of North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He also leaves behind his special fur babies.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 2:00 PM, with Bishop Jesse Farley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be J.C. Canaday, John Cox, Carlie Canaday, Donald Canaday, Robert Canaday, Aidan Whittaker, and Junior Canaday.
