James Edward Covey

James Edward Covey, age 64, of Glen Daniel, WV departed this life on January 21, 2024 at the Hidden Valley Health Care Center in Oak Hill, WV after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Lillard Covey, an infant sister Susan Darlene Covey, and a special nephew Derek Lee Covey.

James had a 25 year long career as a radio disc jockey and worked at various radio stations throughout southern WV until in the mid 80's, when he found his home at The Big Dawg in Country 99.5 WJLS, and he stayed with them until the mid  90's when he became retired. Music was his passion and he instilled his love and knowledge of it on his children and grandchildren; the music that he shared will help to carry on his memory through one song or many.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory are his companion and love of his life, Connie Sue Canterbury; his mother Janice Marie Covey Richardson; his children, Cassandra Marie Covey of Glen Daniel, John Anthony Covey of Beaver, Michael Lee Covey also of Beaver, Joseph Edward Roscoe Covey and fiancé Bowie Morris of Georgia, Thomas James Covey of Glen Daniel; step son Christopher Mark Canterbury of Glen Daniel; brothers Roy Dean Covey of Eccles, and Dairen Lee Covey of Glen Daniel.  He also leaves behind five granddaughters, four grandsons, a few special friends of his as well, Ms. Lydia Blevins of Maple Meadow and Ritchie Angell of Midway.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
