Rev. James Franklin "Frankie" Lyons, age 78, of Beckley, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his home following a long illness.
Born on May 29, 1945 in Cranberry, he was the son of the late Gruder Lyons and Goldie Mae Lyons.
Rev. Lyons was a former coal miner, and had pastored at several churches in Raleigh County over the years. He also had a radio gospel broadcast on WJLS radio station for many years. Rev. Lyons was a member of the Sprague Freewill Baptist Church, and enjoyed working on cars when health allowed, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Lyons was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Belle, Anna May, Monroe, Charlie, Wayne, Carl and Glen.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Peggy Allison Lyons; a daughter, Tracy Rucker and husband David of Beckley; two granddaughters, Sheila Daniels and husband Anthony of Glen Daniel, and Jessica Breton and husband Matthew of Glen Daniel. Seven great grandchildren, Montana Breton, Audey Breton, Remington Breton, Benjamin Breton, Fletcher Daniels, Denise Daniels, and Tessa Daniels; and a sister Susie Murphy of Cranberry. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday, January 11,2024 at 1 PM with Rev. Floyd Bolen and Rev. Junior Plumley officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Breton, Anthony Daniels, Clayton Perkins, Tom Lewis, Bob Spencer and Skee Barley. His great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family extends special thanks to Hospice of Southern WV. for the excellent care given to Rev. Frankie Lyons.
