James Frederick Hacker

1949 welcomed Harry Truman in office in January, but. . . in Valley Head, West Virginia, Betty Ann Arthur and Elzie Hacker Jr. welcomed Fred on August 16, 1949. Although Fred never made president, he touched many lives. Fred was the eldest of eight children. He is preceeded in death by his parents; one brother, Rick Hudson; and three sisters, Dianna Day, Dreama Domingues and Donna Johnson Davis.

On the morning of January 12, 2025 Fred took a new position on a celestial route delivering papers on the streets of gold.

Fred wanted to be a fireman but knew running into burning buildings did not make sense. In the early sixties Fred began delivering the newspaper. Five decades he brought the news and carried the secrets of the town. (Don't worry, your secrets are safe with us.) Fred could be found at the Castle every Friday night when the Mustangs took to the field wearing his blue and gold cheering.

Fred loved to chat with whoever he came into contact with at Bons Bons and Mountaineer Mart. Fred was as much of Mount Hope's history as the clock; Fred outlived the red light, the clock, and the school system. He suffered tremendously when the smokehouse closed. That hotdog had been apart of his daily diet for as long as anyone could remember. He shared his love of westerns with his nieces and nephews. Though there are far too many to count, each one counted and was loved dearly by Fred-especially if they could sing or do magic tricks.

Left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Debra Blake and Mary Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews, as mentioned above there are too many to count. Fred had a very special bond with his nephew Zy.
