James "Jim" Lonnie Ransom

James Lonnie Ransom, age 99, of Daniels, WV passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

Born on April 8, 1927 at Blue Jay, WV, he was the son of the late George Ransom and Monnie Basham Ransom.

Mr. Ransom was a retired employee of  the C&O Railroad, and was a US Army  Veteran serving during WWII.

He was a member of Daniels Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.

Mr. Ransom was an avid West Virginia University Mountaineer sports fan. He also enjoyed gardening when health allowed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo Richmond Ransom, and by twelve siblings.

Mr. Ransom was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, James Lee  Ransom and wife Beverly of Clarksburg, Steven Ray Ransom of Daniels, and Kathy Ransom of South Charleston. Four grandchildren, Jevon Hofer of Clarksburg, Andrea Nixon, Steven James Ransom, and Jessica Ransom, all of New York; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will  be  conducted at the Amos E. Quesenberry Peace Chapel of Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Tim Dillon officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Friday at the funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be family members and men of the church.
