James Robert Richmond

James Robert Richmond, age 78, of Shady Spring, WV went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Select Specialty Unit inside CAMC Memorial Medical Center in Charleston, WV.

Born on September 16, 1946 in Abraham, WV he was the son of the late Theodore E. Richmond and Mary Jane Stinnett Richmond.

James worked as a chemical applicator and grounds maintenance for Glade Springs for 28 years.  He also worked several years for Aspen Corporation.  He loved working outdoors and took pride in the beautiful flower beds and shrubbery he planted and kept trimmed.  He also loved being sound technician at the Open Door Church for many years until he had to give it up due to his health. He loved playing the guitar, listening and watching gospel music and preaching, watching westerns, and Perry Mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mabel "Evelyn" Hatcher, and brothers Paul Ray, Ross and Leon Richmond as well as several infant brothers and sisters. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Richmond, and a special friend and neighbor that he grew to love like a son, William "Bill" Mendoza.  He was also survived by brothers in-law, and sisters in-law, two nieces, one nephew and three step nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 11:00 AM with Pastor Don Kelly and Bishop Roger Lafferty officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park of Beckley. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
