James Clyde Sutphin Jr., age 92, of Daniels, WV passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Born on January 8, 1934 in Beckley, he was the son of the late James Clyde Sutphin Sr. and Grace Ann Quesenberry Sutphin.

Mr .Sutphin was retired from the United States Army, with 26 years of service. He also retired as a government contractor with over 25 years of service. Mr. Sutphin was a member of Bible Baptist Church at MacArthur, WV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Louise Sutphin on December 5, 2021; one grandchild and one great grandchild. by twin brother William Craig Sutphin. Mr. Sutphin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, Gina Lilly and husband Doug of Daniels, and Michael Sutphin and wife Valerie of Beaver; five grandchildren, Ginger Ray, Aaron Lilly, Mark Lilly, Jessica Jackson, and Jonathan Sutphin; six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley, WV on Wednesday, August  19, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Sam Green officiating. Friends may visit the family thirty minutes prior to the services on Wednesday at the mausoleum. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum.
